Palazzo Ducale (The Duke's Palace) consists of buildings constructed by the Bonacolsis and the Gonzagas from the XIVth to the XVIIIth centuries. It includes a large group of independent buildings, built in an unusual form of architecture, rich in decorations and paintings that had been commissioned to famous artists such as: Pisanello, Fancelli, Mantegna, Leonbruno, Giulio Romano, Lorenzo Costa, Correggio, Tiziano,Tintoretto, Bertani, Rubens and Fetti.

From spring to autumn (from 31st March to 1st November) the whole museum can be visited by all the tourists.
In winter time, (from 2nd November to 30th March) owing to the climatic conditions, only groups of no more than 30 people at a time are allowed to visit the palace accompanied the members of the staff. Groups must book in advance.
Schools must book in advance.
The tour to the 'Bridal Chamber' must be booked as follows: from 15th March to 31st October for groups; from 15th March to 15th June and from 1st September to 15th October for individual visitors.

The imposing Palace was the residence of the D'Arco Earls. Today the D'Arco estate is directed by a foudation that preserves the XVIIIth –XIXth century patrician dwelling perfectly.
The furniture has been kept untouched since the death of the last descendant of this noble family.
Of great appeal is the XIXth century kitchen with an outstanding collection of copper objects. A picture gallery contains paintings of great artistic and historical interest.
The XVIth century 'Sala dello Zodiaco' contains original frescos attributed to Falconetto during the early XVIth century.

In 1515 Federico II Gonzaga commissioned Giulio Romano to build the magnificent Palazzo Te with its architectural and pictorial beauties designed for the prince and his court to serve as a place of leisure and relaxation.
The Room of the Giants, the Horse Room and Psyche Room are the most important rooms of the palace. Inside the building you can see the Municipal Museum which includes the 'Arnaldo Mondadori' Donation, the G.Acerbi' Egyptian collection, the Sissa Mesopotamian collection and the Gonzaga collection.
Timetable: opening time: from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.. Easter Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dedicated to Francesco Gonzaga the museum is on the first floor of the gothic monastery of S. Agnese. It collects the 'treasures' from the Mantuan diocesi, some precious objects and jewels from the Gonzagas that had been preserved from the plundering of the town, and also the famous collection of armour from the Sanctuary in Grazie that is considered the most important collection of the XVth century Italian weapons in the world.
Visitors can admire the excellent missal that belonged to Barbara di Brandeburgo, wife of Ludovico II Gonzaga, and that is one of the best illuminated books still existing.
There are also famous paintings that had been commissioned to equally famous artists such as Mantegna, Correggio, Cellini and Fetti.

From March to Octuber it is open all days except Monday.
From November to February it is open just on Sunday.

It is Antonio Galli Bibiena's masterpiece and the town's jewel. It was inaugurated in 1769.
It has a bell frame and it consists of a colonnade supporting walls lined with graceful wooden boxes whose monochromatic interiors were frescoed by Antonio Bibiena. On 16th January 1770 Wolfang Amadeus Mozart gave a concert in this theatre when he was 14.

It was built in the XIIIth century for public meetings, or, in case of bad weather, for the local market which was in the nearby square.
The clock tower is close to the Palazzo della Ragione. The tower was originally designed by Luca Fancelli and built from 1472 to 1473. The astronomical clock was made by Bortolomeo Manfredi.

The museum is devoted to the 'flying' champions of champions super race pilot Tazio Nuvolari and the very famous cyclist Learco Guerra.
The museum includes 9 exhibition sectors. In the big room visitors can see cups, medals, trophies, photos and writings about Nuvolari's thirty years career.
In the other rooms most important events and experiences about Learco's career are collected.

It was the residence of A. Mantegna. It was begun in 1476 and probably designed by the artist himself. The architecture of the building is very original: the circular courtyard leads to the various rooms and in some of them some pictorial decorations can still be seen. Now it is property of the Province and it is an important place for events related to modern and contemporary art exhibitions.

The museum was opened in 1991 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the National Fire Brigade. It is a collection of fire engines and materials coming from Italian fire stations.

The Museum is inside the Duke's Palace, where there was the Cocoon Market till some decades ago. From the archaeological point of view, Mantua is one of the most important places in Lombardy and, since 1998, it is possible to visit the fixed exhibition called 'Archaeology from the Mantuan territory'.

The Accademy was founded by Maria Teresa of Austria in 1768 and it became an high school and a university centre with several well organized subjects. It was a cultural and educational centre, owner of all the Mantuan artistic objects and also of the Mantuan public books.
It saves a lot of prints, engravings and drawings, modern and ancient books, a 17th century musical archive, and its own historical archive. Tourist can also see a rich collection of surgical instruments of the XVIIIth century.

The museum is on the ground floor of the 'Palazzo del Capitano', inside the Duke's Palace. It is dedicated to the historian Renato Giusti who was the promoter. The collection includes weapons, uniforms, documents, prints, paintings, notices, judgements and edicts.

The Palace was built between 1506 and 1508; it was the residence of Francesco II Gonzaga and it contained the famous Caesar's Triumphs realized by Andrea Mantegna. After its restoration, the municipality in Mantua has chosen this palace as the seat of the 'Town Museum', where the visitors can admire the Triumphs thanks to a precise virtual reconstruction and very important sculptural works from many important town building facades.

It was a designed by Leon Battista Alberti and built by Luca Fancelli. The first design of the church was completely changed owing to a restoration in the early years of the XXth century.
A fresco by Andrea Mantegna on the façade is in very bad condition now. Its interior is on a Greek cross plan. The XVIth century altar is surrounded by 4 Tuscan columns.

It is a the biggest Gonzaga and Mantuan collection of medals and coins in the world with its 2,160 pieces on display. It includes very rare and valuable pieces that had been commissioned by the Gonzagas to famous artists such as: Pisanello, Bartolo Talpa, Leone Leoni, Gaspare Molo e Gian Cristoforo Romano.

The collection is on the second floor of the Mantua Chamber of Commerce that is in a magnificent liberty style building designed in 1913 by the architect Aldo Andreani.
The Gallery includes a lot of valuable ancient paintings and a XXth century collection of paintings and sculptures done by famous Mantuan artists.

It was the home of Osanna Andreasi (1474 – 1505),who was beatified in the 50s of the XVIth century and it has always been a religious place.
Today it is owned by the 'Provincia Domenicana' Utriusque Lombardiae and it is the seat of the secular Dominican fraternity and of the Association for the Dominican monuments.
In the interior there are XVth and XVIth century frescos, as well as wooden ceilings.
The Beata Osanna's relics are kept in one of the rooms on the floor where the noble family used to live.

Guided tours: for individuals and groups led by a volunteer of the Dominican monument Association. Historical, artistic and spiritual trails can also be effected.
