from 26 July 2008 to 31 December 2010 - Discover the Mantuan countryside

From town to countryside
Thanks to its small size, due to the sourroundings lakes that have limited its development, Mantua offers a peaceful environment and an intimate and cosy atmosphere. After visiting the monuments and the museums of the historic centre, visitors can relax and go for a walk, a cycle ride or boating.
Crossing the street facing the Castle of San Giorgio you find yourself on the Lungolago Gonzaga (Gonzaga Lakefront), where boats leave and take visotrs along the water routes around Mantua, along the Mincio and Po rivers.
The lakefront is also the perfect starting point for fascinating walks or cycle rides along the lakesides; you can also strike out into the surrounding cpuntryside among ditches, irrigation channels, banks and tilled lands and rich the gentle morainic hills through the Mincio Park in the north, the Po river in the south, the Oglio park in the west, the Lower Mincio and the rice-growing area in the east.
Everywhere, you encounter places of unquestionalble natural interest, where water is the constant element: it is the hallmark of the Mantuan territory with 7 rivers and a multitude of channels that host protected animal species and characteristic marsh plants, among which are the amazing lotus flowers that grow in the waters of the Lago Superiore (Upper Lake) during the summer months and now symbols of Mantua itself.
Roaming through the countryside also means coming across small villages where time seems to have stopped, farms where rural architecture is at the best, lovely and isolated parish churches and oratories that suddenly pop up and embody the intimate relationship with the sacred.
