Gerra Gavazzi and Runate Oxbows

Two abandoned meanders of the river

Gerra Gavazzi and Runate Oxbows

They are typical areas of the low valley of the river Oglio from alluvial deposits in glacial periods when the river was wandering along the holms and continuously changing its course owing to the lack of banks. The two meanders previously formed by the river are situated to the north-west of Canneto sull`Oglio, on the border of the Provine of Cremona, in an area between the left side of the Oglio and the road that links Canneto with Fontanella Grazioli. A very interesting variety of trees, such as alders, white poplars, osmundas and summer snowflakes can be seen around the expanses of water, in woods and grasslands.
