Castellaro Lagusello Natural Riserve

Situated in the north-east of the Province of Mantua, at about 35 kms away from the town of Mantua, in the municipal district of Monzambano, this place combines historical and natural aspects, as to say, it is rich in medieval history as well as in natural aspects with hills and a lake. The small medieval village is on top of a low hill. It is well preserved and surrounded by a flat-top merlon wall that hides ancient paths. Inside visitors can see the XIIIth century castle with towers and bastions, and the marquis Tacolis` Palace that was Napoleon`s headquarter during the 2 periods of the war against Italy. From the walls tourists can see the small heart-shaped lake, one of the last glacial lakes with a little wood of alders on its edge. The area of the natural reserve is private while the Park has acquired some plots of land in order to do proper interventions such as reforestation and new paths. For information contact the Association for the Park.
