Verona, a city full of art and culture, the symbol of Romeo and Juliet’s opposed love, has got a great number of attractions outside the city centre, too. In the Verona environs there are Garda Lake, Valpolicella, Mount Baldo, Lessinia, Mantua, with their attractive landscapes and the possibility to make a walking tour or to cycle.
Garda Lake, one of the most suggestive Italian lakes bounds the west side of Verona province. It is located between green hills and mountains, its lakeshore let us see beaches and coves full of scents and colours. On the lakeshore you should visit: Malcesine, Brenzone, Torri del Benaco, Garda, Bardolino, Lazise and Peschiera del Garda.
The north side of Verona province, generally called Lessinia, is made of a big tableland, bounded by Vicenza province on the east, by Adige Valley on the west and by Ronchi Valley on the north. Ronchi valley divides Verona and Trento provinces.
Valpolicella, the area in the north-west of Verona province, is famous for its vineyards, from which it is made the excellent Valpolicella wine. The common Valpolicella, but also Recioto and Amarone, are produced in the area of Negrar, Marano, Fumane, Sant’Ambrogio e S.Pietro in Cariano.
Nature-lovers should visit Baldo, a full of vineyard and sown ground area, but also full of small centres where farmers and craftsmen live. It is an ideal route for walking and cycling.
Mantua, a few Km away from Verona, offers a mix of history and art. Mantua is full of museums, historic palaces, churches and synagogue, historic cores linked with past events, picture galleries, suggestive corners, alleys, streets and little squares framed by bricks and ancient street furniture. For people who want to stay not very far from Verona, Mantua province offers a great number of lodging in holiday farms or country houses.
