Wines and typical products: shop online of sparkling wines and brut wines.
The province of Mantua shows two main wine production areas: the upper region and the morainic hills with the DOC* wines "Garda" and "Garda Colli Mantovani", and the plain with the DOC wine "Lambrusco Mantovano".
At the base of the Mantuan morainic hills, where the Lombard and Veneto cultures meet and merge, grapevines find an ideal environment: the geographic location is excellent, the climate is mild and windy (Lake Garda is very near) and the morainic loamy soil has a favourable conformation. Here the wine tradition of the region takes the shape of over 2500 acres of specialised vineyards, distributed in the communes of Castiglione delle Stiviere, Solferino, Cavriana, Volta Mantovana, Ponti sul Mincio, Monzambano.
Outstanding wines such as Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, Pinot Bianco are obtained from grapevines bearing the same names and from Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino, Garganega, Sangiovese, Rondinella, etc.
Wines obtained from at least 85% from the corresponding grapevines are called "Garda DOC". They are: Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon, Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Nero in the varieties Bianco, Chiaretto, Rosso.
Top-level sparkling wine and brut wines are also produced and becoming more and more popular at national level, in a crescendo that was inconceivable just some years ago.
The wine-producing activity in the Lambrusco wine area dates back to remote times, when the Benedectines worked hard in the lands of the Abbey of Polirone and of the Oltrepò region to start a tradition which is still alive today.
The province of Mantua boasts a production of excellent Lambrusco wine ("Lambrusco Mantovano") obtained from vineyards with the following varieties: Lambrusco Viadanese or Grappello Ruberti, Lambrusco Maestri or Grappello Maestri, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Salamino, Ancellotta-Fontana or Uva d'oro up to 15%.
White vinification and the famous Trebbiano allow the production of very good and lively light wines characterised with a straw yellow colour as pleasant as their taste and smell. The two different areas of production are: the territory between the Oglio and Po rivers ("Viadanese-Sabbionetano") and the Mantuan Oltrepò region ("Oltrepò mantovano").
